Tasting Notes: The 2013 vintage provided both abundant and intense fruit, a combination not traditionally found together. The color of this wine is vibrant almost like a black light poster in a back room of a Spencers Gift store in the 70’s. Aromatically this wine is compelling and provides an exotic bouquet of wild herbs, blackberry and strawberry jam with grilled meats filling out the nose. On the palate this wine provides a flavor profile of jammy blackberries and black cherries, smoked meats, red cracked peppercorns closing with hints of tapenade. Sensational length on the palate, that defines hang time more than Michael Jordan, during a dunking contest.
Galaxy Notes: 37% Zinfandel, 25% Syrah, 24% Petite Sirah, 7% Grenache, 7% Alicante Bouschet Talk about Rhône inspired! The 2013 Smoke & Mirrors was all hand picked and hand sorted. We cold soaked for 5 days and then fermented as each vineyard dictated. 35% whole cluster fermented Syrah, 10% foot stomped Grenache. Isolated Northern and Southern Rhône yeast for most of the grapes, with a Priorat yeast for the Grenache. Most lots were fermented in small open tops or concerte tank. Fermentation lasted for 2 weeks before being drained directly to barrel. We rack only once to blend and then to bottle letting us utilize less sulfur in our process. 2100 cases produced.
